The Professional Graduate Program Initiative (PGPI) was created in Spring 2021 and began in Fall 2021 to explore how to offer high-quality graduate and professional education in ways that meet student and workforce needs and how to enhance inclusion and equity to foster diverse environments.
The first exciting outcome of this initiative has been the Master of Data Science (MDS) degree, which began in the Summer of 2024. The MDS adopts an inclusive approach, allowing individuals from diverse academic backgrounds beyond STEM who hold bachelor's degrees to acquire the essential knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in data science. The fully accredited MDS program is performance-based, requiring students to attain a B grade or higher in an initial, three-credit course to continue toward the graduate degree.
