Earn a Master’s Degree from SCI
There has never been a better time to earn a degree in the exciting field of computing and information. Data is all around us and used in nearly every facet of society. Now more than ever, there is a need for professionals who can collect, manage, and understand this data as well as develop the tools that empower society to harness it. As part of the Pitt2Pitt program, we are encouraging students to gain critical skills in the fields of computing and information to excel in their careers.
All eligible Pitt undergraduate students and alumni receive a $5,000-$7,500 tuition scholarship tuition scholarship if they apply, are admitted, and enroll in one of the Master's programs in SCI.
This amount applies to both in-state and out-of-state students, but amounts are contingent upon enrollment status:
Full-time students receive a $2,500 per term scholarship for up to three terms.
Part-time students receive a $1,250 per term scholarship for up to three terms.
Part-time students must enroll in a minimum of 4.5 credits per term to be eligible.

Admissions Criteria and Application Process
Applicants who have successfully completed a prior degree at the University of Pittsburgh, who apply to one of our participating Master's programs (Computer Science, Information Science, Telecommunications, and Library and Information Science), and WHO ARE ADMITTED THROUGHT THE REGULAR APPLICATION PROCESS to that program are eligible for the scholarship.
Additionally all applicants who have successfully completed a prior degree at the University of Pittsburgh who apply to participating SCI Master's programs are eligible for an application fee waiver. This fee waiver needs to be requested before the application is submitted. If eligible, please email sciadmit@pitt.edu to request the waiver.
Once an eligible student has obtained the fee waiver, they can apply to our programs using the normal application process.

Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS)
The 36-credit Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree program in the School of Computing and Information is situated at the nexus of human-centered and ethical issues in computing, technology, and information. Our MLIS degree, which can be completed either in person or online, will prepare you to collaborate with colleagues to manage data, information, technology, and resources in a wide range of institutions and to lead in serving the information needs of people, organizations, and communities. Our students represent an eclectic mix of humanities, social sciences, fine arts, and science and technology undergraduate majors who are pivoting to a new career. Along with academic diversity, our student body combines a range of genders, races, ages, geographic locales, and life experiences.
With a 120-year legacy of educating leaders in the information professions, our MLIS program is accredited nationally by the American Library Association and is consistently recognized by the U.S. News & World Report as one of the top-ten Library and Information Science programs in the United States.

Master of Science in Information Science (MSIS)
The 36-credit Master of Science in Information Science (MSIS) degree program will provide you with more than just technical expertise; you’ll learn how to connect people with technologies that can enhance lives, businesses, and society. Our MSIS program provides a strong foundation in human information processing, security and privacy, databases, algorithms, and networks. The program offers courses in key areas such as interactive system design, social computing, data mining, Web technologies, machine learning, security management and computer forensics, network and wireless technologies, and cloud computing.

- We actively seek out students from STEM backgrounds, and the Department is skilled at facilitating a quick, but thorough grounding in the required programming and mathematical aspects. If you do not have extensive programming experience or working knowledge of discrete math/calculus, don’t worry. We have coursework and support services to bring your skills and knowledge in those areas up to the level which ensures success in our programs. You may have to take an extra class or two as needed to complete your degree.

Master of Science in Telecommunications (MST)
Be prepared to respond to these rapid changes in technology that are influencing the communications networks with our 37-credit Master of Science in Telecommunications (MST) degree program. The MST program produces professionals who will design, build, and manage networks which must consider how people and businesses will use those networks. Coursework covers the design and performance of communication networks (including wireless), elements of network science and analysis, and network security.
