SCI Researchers Win Best Paper Award at ACM MobiCom 2024

December 3, 2024

Last month, Postdoctoral Associate Dr. Tao Chen, Assistant Professor Dr. Longfei Shangguan, and Graduate Research Assistant Yongjie Yang were part of the winning team for the Best Paper Award at the 30th Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking.

The team joined researchers from Zhejiang University, UMass Amherst, and researchers from Google and Microsoft Research Asia to research the feasibility of using Asclepius, a hardware-software solution to turn ordinary earphones into stethoscopes for telehealth appointments. Their paper “Exploring the Feasibility of Remote Cardiac Auscultation Using Earphones” presented compelling results:

  • Over 80% of participants show a willingness to use Asclepius
  • All cardiologists involved highly appreciated Asclepius and believed it holds great potential for remote auscultation

A Google Research Scholar Award and NSF CAREER Award supported their groundbreaking work.

Please join us in congratulating the team! Their paper can be found here.
