At the Department of Informatics and Networked Systems annual Spring Student Awards, Hubert Asare earned the K. Leon Montgomery Assistantship and the Dr. Fritz Froehlich Scholarship, awarded to outstanding students in the Master of Science in Telecommunications (MST) program. These annual awards honor students for their outstanding performance academically, professionally, and in the Pitt community.

Asare was recognized for his leadership and academic excellence. During his experience at SCI, Asare had the opportunity to collaborate with the Pitt Community Engagement Centers (CEC), developing the “Let’s Tech Together” program. The program hosts computer lab sessions and classes to provide technology literacy training and support. One class teaches older adults digital literacy skills, and the other teaches web design to those interested in creating or managing their own websites. The program uses a multifaceted approach to serve the community and make technology more accessible.

“Through “Let’s Tech Together,” I've learned the importance of community service and the transformative power of technology in empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds. This experience has reinforced my commitment to using my skills to positively impact communities and drive social change,” said Asare.

Asare emphasized the meaningful experience he has had in the MST program at SCI. In the program, he has developed professionally through networking and collaboration.

“SCI’s vibrant academic community, attentive supervision, collaborative learning environment, and state-of-the-art facilities have enriched my educational journey. One important takeaway I've gained is the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration. Through projects and discussions spanning various disciplines within the field of telecommunications, I've learned the power of teamwork and diverse perspectives in tackling complex challenges,” said Asare. “I wholeheartedly recommend the MST program to anyone passionate about telecommunications and seeking a rigorous, forward-thinking education that prepares them for the challenges of tomorrow’s digital landscape.”

After graduating, Asare plans to pursue a career in network engineering or telecommunications research.

“I am eager to apply the knowledge and skills I’ve acquired to make meaningful contributions in the telecommunications industry,” said Asare. “From the quality of instruction to the breadth of resources provided, the MST program has provided me with a solid foundation for success in this field.”
