Aditya Nayak, an SCI Fellow and first-year PhD student, was a part of the winning team at the Allegheny County Department of Human Service’s 2024 Local Government Case Competition. Nayak also works in the Socio-Technical Systems in an Interdependent World (STIW) Lab with Dr. Aakash Gautam, an assistant professor with the Department of Computer Science and Department of Information Culture and Data Stewardship.
Teams for the case competition were tasked with brainstorming proposals for supporting refugees and asylees. Nayak's team's winning proposal was on Humanitarian Advocacy for Neighborhood Disabilities and Support. Their proposal used data curation and tracking of disability benefits for refugees with disability.
Nayak says the competition was “a great opportunity to learn about the functioning of local government in the USA and interact with scholars from other universities.”
Please join us in congratulating Aditya Nayak and the rest of the team on this achievement!
