SCI Faculty Continue Quantum-related Work Through Grants, Workshops & Papers

March 17, 2025

Junyu Liu, assistant professor with the Department of Computer Science, has recently been recognized for his various research endeavors:

  • NASA Langley Research Center Grant: Liu received this award for “Quantum Computing for Comprehensible Flow Simulations”, a research project conducted with Swanson School of Engineering (SSOE)’s Assistant Professor Juan Jose Mendoza Arenas and Distinguished Professor Peyman Givi. SCI and SSOE’s funding amounts to $176,387 and will be primarily used to support a two-year NASA postdoc, Dr. Jinglei Cheng, in Liu’s group.
  • Department of Energy Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility Award: This award provides Liu and team members Professor Juan Jose Mendoza Arenas and Professor Peyman Givi with direct access to quantum computers from IMB, IonQ, and Honeywell through the Quantum Computing User Program.

Additionally, Liu and SCI colleagues Assistant Professor Kaushik Seshadreesan and Professor James Joshi, both faculty with the Department of Informatics and Networked Systems, successfully organized The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) workshop “QUILLS 2024” from IEEE TPS 2024, on Quantum Intelligence, Learning, and Security.

Liu, Seshadressan, and Joshi also had two papers accepted to The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE): “Enhancing Quantum Security over Federated Learning via Post-Quantum Cryptography” and “Towards efficient and secure quantum-classical communication networks”.

Please join us in congratulating Liu, Seshadressan, and Joshi on their achievements!
