Computer Science Students Receive Annual Outstanding Undergraduate Award

SCI’s Department of Computer Science recognizes the achievements of undergraduate students through its annual Outstanding Undergraduate Award. Students are selected based on their representation of the department’s standards of excellence, both inside and outside the classroom. The 2024 winners are:

Stephen Arndt (SCI ’24), Honors Degree in Computer Science and Mathematics

Arndt graduated with a 4.0 GPA from the Frederick Honors College (FHC) and has completed undergraduate research with Professor Kirk R. Pruhs, publishing two conference papers. He received an honorable mention for the Computing Research Association (CRA) Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award and was admitted to the Carnegie Mellon University PhD program. 

Anna Baskin (SCI '23), Bachelor of Philosophy in Computer Science and International Studies, Certificate of Arabic Language and Linguistics. 

Baskin graduated from the Frederick Honors College and completed undergraduate research with Professor Panos K. Chrysanthis, publishing two conference papers. She completed a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and is a finalist for the CRA Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award. 

Griffin Hurt (SCI '24), Bachelor of Philosophy in Computer Science. 

Hurt graduated with a 4.0 GPA from the Frederick Honors College and was awarded a Chancellor’s Undergraduate Teaching Fellowship from FHC. He was an undergraduate teaching assistant with the Department of Computer Science and completed undergraduate research with Associate Professor Jacob Biehl, publishing a conference paper. Hurt was also awarded the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Computer Science at SCI.
