Graduation Application Procedures

All Undergraduates

  1. Submit the following to the appropriate records office:
    • SCI Students:
      • Students should submit this survey to receive a link to the Application for Graduation – You must indicate any and all majors, minors, or certificates on page 3 of the application.
      • Students must submit a copy of their Academic Advising Report with their application for graduation.
      • Students must schedule an appointment with their Academic Advisor in order to submit the application for graduation.
      • DEADLINES and associated late fees for SCI students are listed below.
      • No applications will be reviewed or processed until all necessary documents and late fees (if applicable) are submitted.
    • A&S Students:
      • To obtain your graduation application packet, visit 140 Thackeray Hall.
      • DEADLINES and associated late fees for A&S undergraduate students are published by A&S Records (A&S Web site under “Announcements”)

Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS)

  1. Students should submit this survey to receive a link to the Application for Graduation. You must then submit the completed application to the Records Office by the appropriate deadline.

Masters Students

SCI Masters students are required to:

    1. Enroll in a minimum of one credit during the term in which they would like to graduate. If you are not enrolled in credits and have a valid and extenuating reason for this, you must submit the request for a Graduation Enrollment Waiver form.
    2. Plan of study for their degree specialization or track (MSIS, MLIS, MST plans of study) or degree checklist (MSCS Checklist)
    3. Students should submit this survey to receive a link to the Application for Graduation. You must then submit the completed application to the Records Office in person, via mail, or email and by the appropriate deadline.
    4. No applications will be reviewed or processed until all necessary documents and late fees (if applicable) are submitted.
    5. DEADLINES and associated late fees for SCI students are listed below.
    6. Masters students who are publishing an electronic thesis as a part of a degree requirement must also submit all materials outlined in the After You Defend section of the ETD website.
      • Note, EVERY item listed must be completed by the School’s ETD and Paperwork deadline or your graduation will be postponed to the following term.
      • The ETD Approval Form contains a checklist for students to follow – only pages 1-2 of the ETD Approval Form need to be submitted; the checklist is for the use of the student only.
      • Any paperwork that is signed must be the original and therefore should be mailed if you are unable to submit it in person. See the checklist for details. All materials should be submitted to the ETD Coordinator.

A&S MSCS or MS ISP Students

PhD Students

Students enrolled in SCI
  1. Enroll in a minimum of one credit during the term in which they would like to graduate. If you are not enrolled in credits and have a valid and extenuating reason for this, you must submit the request for a Graduation Enrollment Waiver form.
  2. Students should submit this survey to receive a link to the Application for Graduation. You must then submit the completed application to the Records Office in person, via mail, or email and by the appropriate deadline.
  3. No applications will be reviewed or processed until all necessary documents and late fees (if applicable) are submitted.
  4. Plan a defense date early enough to complete dissertation corrections by the ETD and Paperwork deadline outlined below.
  5. Submit all materials outlined in the After You Defend section of the ETD website.
    • Note, EVERY item listed must be completed by the School’s ETD and Paperwork deadline or your graduation will be postponed to the following term.
    • The ETD Approval Form contains a checklist for students to follow – only pages 1-2 of the ETD Approval Form need to be submitted; the checklist is for the use of the student only.

  6. Additionally, doctoral students should review their degree progress with their advisor or their department/program’s graduate administrator.

Students enrolled in Arts&Sciences
    1. Refer to the A&S Graduate Studies Office for instructions, deadlines, forms, and assistance.
    1. Additionally, CS doctoral students should review the PhD in CS Checklist, coordinating with the CS Graduate Administrator as needed.

Deadlines

Forms must be submitted no later than 12:00 pm EST

Failure to meet deadlines will result in your graduation being delayed to the next academic term. Acceptable late fee payments: Check or money order ONLY, made out to the University of Pittsburgh. Late fees are non-negotiable.
