Alfred Moyé

University of Pittsburgh Trustee Emeritus, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Chemistry Professor, and Dean of Students (ret). Retired executive from Hewlett Packard

Dr. Moyé is an Emeritus Trustee and served as a Special Trustee between 1997 and 2006. Dr. Moyé was Pitt’s first African American Vice Chancellor, and as Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs (1973-1977), he established the Founder’s Day Celebrations and reinstated the Honors Convocation. Dr. Moyé was also a Chemistry Professor (1968-1977) and Dean of Student Affairs (1972-1973). A Life Member of the Alumni Association, Dr. Moyé has received several awards: 225 Medallion (2012), Arts & Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award (1970), African American Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award (2003), Baierl Distinguished Service Alumni Award (2013), Chemistry Department Distinguished Alumni Award (2000), and San Francisco Pitt Club Member of the Year (2005). Dr. Moyé has also served on several committees, including the Arts & Sciences Board of Visitors and the Chancellor Search Committee. He lives in San Mateo, California. Dr. Moyé enjoys fine wines and has a collection of more than 900 bottles. He is also a fan of Pitt Athletics, the San Francisco Giants, and the 49ers. 

Dr. Moyé worked as Director of University Relations at Hewlett Packard from 1995-2000 and served as the company’s Manager of Engineering Education Performance Technology. He has also worked for the Atari Institute for Education Research and the U. S. Office of Education. In 1960, He earned a BS in Chemistry at West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he also taught, served as a trustee, and served as a member of the Presidential Search Committee. Dr. Moyé has been affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Chemical Society, the American Society for Engineering Education, and the National Science Foundation.
